How It Works

InflowMail uses AI to power email classification, smart reply drafts, thread summarization, and natural language search. You have three options for how AI is configured:

Default

We handle everything. InflowMail uses Anthropic Claude with our API key. No setup required.

Choose Provider

Pick Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google Gemini. We use our API key for the provider you choose.

Bring Your Own Key

Use your own API key for your preferred provider. Full control, billed directly to your account.

Setting Up in InflowMail

Go to Settings

Navigate to your organization's Settings page. You must be an admin or owner.

Find "AI Configuration"

Scroll down to the AI Configuration card.

Choose your mode

Select Default, Choose Provider, or Bring Your Own Key.

Enter your API key (BYOAI only)

Paste your API key and click Validate to verify it works. Then click Save.

We support four AI providers. Each handles email classification, smart replies, thread summarization, and Q&A.

How to get your API key

1. Go to console.anthropic.com and create an account
2. Navigate to API Keys in the left sidebar
3. Click Create Key and give it a name (e.g., "InflowMail")
4. Copy the key (starts with sk-ant-) and paste it into InflowMail
5. Add billing information in Settings > Billing to fund your usage

Pricing

Claude Haiku: ~$0.25 per million input tokens, ~$1.25 per million output tokens. A typical email classification costs less than $0.001.

OpenAI (ChatGPT)

How to get your API key

1. Go to platform.openai.com and sign in (or create an account)
2. Click your profile icon > API Keys (or go to platform.openai.com/api-keys)
3. Click Create new secret key, name it "InflowMail"
4. Copy the key (starts with sk-) and paste it into InflowMail
5. Add a payment method under Settings > Billing to fund API usage

Pricing

GPT-4o mini: ~$0.15 per million input tokens, ~$0.60 per million output tokens. Very affordable for email tasks.

Google Gemini

How to get your API key

1. Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in with your Google account
2. Click Get API key in the left sidebar
3. Click Create API key and select a Google Cloud project (one is created automatically if needed)
4. Copy the key (starts with AIza) and paste it into InflowMail

Free Tier Available

Google Gemini offers a generous free tier: 15 requests per minute, 1 million tokens per minute, 1,500 requests per day. More than enough for personal email use at no cost.

How to get your API key

1. Go to console.x.ai and sign in with your X (Twitter) account or email
2. Navigate to API Keys
3. Click Create API Key and name it "InflowMail"
4. Copy the key (starts with xai-) and paste it into InflowMail
5. Add credits under Billing to fund your usage

Pricing

Grok-2: ~$2 per million input tokens, ~$10 per million output tokens. Free credits available for new accounts.

API Key Security

Your API keys are treated with the same security as your OAuth credentials:

Encrypted with AES-256 before storage

Decrypted only in memory, per-request

Never shown in full after saving

Validated before storage

Never logged or sent to third parties

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I don't configure anything?

InflowMail uses Anthropic Claude with our API key by default. AI features work out of the box with no setup needed.

Will I be charged by the AI provider?

Only in "Bring Your Own Key" mode. When you use your own API key, the AI provider bills your account directly based on their pricing. In Default and Choose Provider modes, AI usage is included in your InflowMail plan.

How much does it cost with my own key?

Very little. Email classification typically costs less than $0.001 per email. A user processing 100 emails per day would spend roughly $1-3 per month. Google Gemini's free tier covers most personal use at no cost.

Can I switch providers later?

Yes, you can change your AI provider or mode anytime in Settings. The change takes effect immediately.

Does my email data get sent to the AI provider?

Yes, email content is sent to the AI provider for processing (classification, replies, etc.). None of the supported providers use API data for model training. See each provider's data policies for details.

Is this available on the Free plan?

BYOAI is available on all plans. Free plan users can bring their own key to unlock full AI features including smart replies, thread summaries, and AI Q&A.
